Pornography use

If pornography use feels compulsive, distressing, or is interfering with your life, you’re not alone. The goal isn’t shame—it’s rebuilding choice, reducing triggers, and stabilizing your routines.

Common patterns

These are often present when porn use becomes difficult to control:

  • Using porn to manage stress, loneliness, boredom, or difficult emotions
  • Escalation (more time, more novelty) to get the same relief
  • Repeated “I’ll stop tomorrow” cycles and frustration with relapses
  • Impact on sleep, work/school focus, relationships, or self-image

What helps

Practical levers that reliably reduce compulsive patterns:

  • Trigger mapping (time of day, device, emotions, location)
  • Friction & boundaries (filters, device rules, private browsing locks)
  • Replacement routines (short walks, cold shower, journaling, breathwork)
  • Support (accountability, therapy, or group support when ready)

First steps (this week)

  1. 1
Pick one high-risk situation Choose the most predictable trigger (e.g., late-night scrolling in bed).
  2. 2
Add friction Make the behavior harder to start: remove apps, add blocking, charge phone outside bedroom.
  3. 3
Replace the relief Plan a 5–10 minute alternative that reduces the urge intensity.
